1-What is the language of education at Akdeniz University?

Turkish is the language of instruction at Akdeniz University with the exception of programmes which are listed as providing all courses in a foreign language or languages. The programmes in which the whole of the course is taught in a foreign language are;

  • English Language and Literature, Undergraduate and Master’s Degree Programmes (100% English)
  • Tourism Management, Undergraduate Programme (100% English)
  • Computer Engineering, Undergraduate, Master’s and Doctorate Degree Programmes (100% English)
  • Agricultural Biotechnology Master’s and Doctorate Degree Programmes (100% English)
  • International Tourism Management, Master’s Degree Programme (100% English)
  • Gene and Cell Therapy, Master’s and Doctorate Degree Programmes (100% English)
  • German Language and Literature, Undergraduate and Master’s Degree Programmes (100% German)

2-Which examinations are acceptable when applying to study at Akdeniz University?

International Students are required to pass Akdeniz University International Student Admission Examination (AKDENİZ YÖS).

3-What are the contents of the Akdeniz University International Students Admission Examination?

The AKDENİZ YÖS-2020 examination consists of a Basic Learning Skills Test of 80 multiple choice questions on Mathematics, Geometry and IQ, and is available to be taken in Turkish, English, Russian, Arabic, German and French.

In the Basic Learning Skills Test, for each candidate 3 different score types are assessed, namely MathematicsGeneral Ability and Equal Weight scores. Candidates can apply for a maximum of 10 (ten) diploma programmes.

(1) Candidates who achieve a minimum score of 45 in the relevant section of the Basic Learning Skills Test may be eligible to select a preferred faculty or school which provides undergraduate degree diploma programmes.

(2) Candidates who achieve a minimum score of 35 in the relevant section of the Basic Learning Skills Test may be eligible to select a preferred vocational school which provides associate degree diploma programmes.

(3) Candidates who achieve a minimum score of 45 in the relevant section of the Basic Learning Skills Test may be eligible to select a preferred diploma programme which requires participation in a Special Talent Examination.

4-What are the Conditions of Acceptance for International Students when applying to Akdeniz University?

  1. a) All applications will be accepted and evaluated on condition that the applicant has either completed or is in the final year of their secondary education, and fulfils the conditions listed below. If the candidate does not fulfil any of these conditions, the application will not be accepted.

The applicant;

1) Is a foreign citizen,

2) Is a Turkish citizen by birth who was granted permission by the Turkish Ministry of Internal Affairs to give up their Turkish citizenship, or is a child of such a person who is below the age of 18, and who is registered on his or her parent’s renunciation of citizenship document, providing they have in their possession documentary evidence of their rights under the terms of Law No. 5901, and Article 7 (1), (The 7th article of Turkish Nationality Law No. 5901 states that “an infant born from the marriage of a mother or a father with Turkish citizenship, which was born either inside or outside Turkey, is a Turkish citizen”; applicants who would like to apply for the international student quotas should further the Turkish Nationality Law.),

3) Is a foreign national by birth, and who has also been granted Turkish citizenship (dual nationality),

4) a) Is a Turkish citizen who has completed his or her last three year of secondary education (high school) in a foreign country, or is a Turkish citizen who has completed his or her secondary education entirely in one of the Turkish Schools founded by the Ministry of Education in a foreign country, with the exception of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) before the date 01/02/2013,

b) Is a Turkish citizen who has completed his or her entire secondary education in a foreign country, or a Turkish citizen who has completed his or her secondary education entirely in one of the Turkish Schools founded by the Ministry of Education in a foreign country with the exception of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) after the date 01/02/2013,

5) Is a TRNC citizen living in the TRNC who has completed his or her secondary education in the TRNC, and has successfully completed the GCE AL Examination and who has or will have a GCE AL qualification after having registered for and completed a course of education in a college or high school in another country between 2005 and 2010.

b) Applications will not be accepted if the candidate is subject to one of the conditions listed below;

The applicant;

1) Is a Turkish citizen who has totally completed his or her secondary education in Turkey or the TRNC,

2) Is a TRNC citizen, unless the applicant has completed his or her secondary education in the TRNC, and has successfully completed the GCE AL Examination and who has or will have a GCE AL qualification after having registered for, and completed a course of education in a college or high school in another country between 2005 and 2010,

3) Dual citizens whose first citizenship is Turkish from birth, as defined in section a/2 of this article (except those who fulfil the requirements set out in a/4),

4) Dual citizens who have TRNC citizenship, unless they have completed their secondary education at a high school in the TRNC, have obtained a GCE AL Examination and who have or will have a GCE AL qualification after having registered for, and completed a course of education in a college or high school in another countries between 2005 and 2010,

5) Turkish citizens or dual citizens whose first citizenship is Turkish as defined in section a/2 of this article and, who have studied or are currently studying at a foreign embassy school or a foreign high school in Turkey.

Applications from candidates who were subject to dismissal from higher education institutions in Turkey due to a disciplinary offense will not be accepted.

5-When and where is the Akdeniz University International Students Admission Examination (AKDENİZ YÖS) held?

a)The Akdeniz University International Students Admission Examination is held every year on the date listed in the academic calendar.

b)The Akdeniz University International Students Admission Examination is held inside and outside Turkey. Examination centres are determined by the decision of the Akdeniz University Senate. Information about examination centres is published on the official website of our university (yos.akdeniz.edu.tr).

6-How long are the results of the Akdeniz University International Students Admission Examination (AKDENİZ YÖS) valid?

The results of the Akdeniz University International Students Admission Examination (AKDENİZ YÖS) are valid for 1 year.

7-How can I apply for the AKDENİZ YÖS examination?

Applications from both Turkey and foreign countries can be made online on the Akdeniz University official webpage (yos.akdeniz.edu.tr).

8-Does Akdeniz University operate country–quota during the preference and placement process?

In the preference and placement process for associate and undergraduate degree programmes, no country-quota is operated by Akdeniz University.

Candidates will be placed to the programmes by classifying the relevant scores from the AKDENİZ YÖS Examination results from the highest to the lowest in accordance with the published quotas and the order of their preferences.

9-Where can I find announcements about my application?

Candidates can find the results of their applications by entering their user names and passwords on the following web link; “yos.akdeniz.edu.tr”. Candidates who are successful in their applications can also obtain their acceptance documents from yos.akdeniz.edu.tr, and they should then apply to the Turkish Foreign Representative Office for their ‘Turkish Student Visa’.

10-What are the dates on which candidates can register, and what is the correct procedure?

Students who are successful in their application must make their applications on the dates listed in the academic calendar. The correct procedure for registration is explained in the Akdeniz University Directive on the Selection and Placement of International Students on Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programmes. Applications must include all the required documents or they cannot be accepted.

11-Which candidates are exempt from taking the Turkish Proficiency Examination

If the applicant who has totally completed his/her secondary school education in Turkey, or in the Turkish Schools which are founded by the Turkish Ministry of Education in a foreign country or who has the Turkish Proficiency Certificate given by institutions which are internationally recognized by the Council of Higher Education is not required a Turkish Proficiency Certificate. If any candidate has a diploma (associate, undergraduate, master or doctorate degree) awarded for a programme in which the language of instruction is 100% Turkish from a university inside or outside Turkey, that person will not be required to take the Turkish Proficiency Certificate.

The Turkish Proficiency Levels of candidates who are given a place on an academic programme will be determined according to the following criteria;

-Their results in the Turkish Proficiency Test administrated by the Akdeniz University-TÖMER,

-The Turkish Proficiency Certificate awarded by the Akdeniz University-TÖMER,

-The Turkish Proficiency Certificate awarded by the Yunus Emre Institution.

Candidates who have Turkish Proficiency Certificate (C1 and above) can start their courses without taking the Turkish Proficiency Test.

Candidates who have completed their final registration process but do not have a Turkish Proficiency Certificate will be required to achieve a pass grade in the Turkish Proficiency Test held by the Akdeniz University-TÖMER at the beginning of each academic year.

The Turkish Proficiency Certificate is not required when applying for programmes in which all courses are taught in English or German.

12-How is the level of tuition fees for international students decided?

Decisions regarding the level of tuition fees are made by the Akdeniz University Senate. Fees cannot be set at a level which is higher than the ‘student current service costs’, which are determined annually by the Council of Ministers.

13-Are international students permitted to participate in international exchange programmes?

International students are permitted to participate in international exchange programmes (Mevlana, Erasmus, Farabi).
